PERSONAL PRELATURE
What is a personal prelature? How does it resemble and how does it differ from other juridical structures in the Church? Why is there only one? The most frequently asked questions are briefly answered here.
On November 28, 1982, John Paul II erected Opus Dei as a personal prelature. Canon Law Professor Carlos José Errázuriz Mackenna answers questions about what this step means.

Msgr. Errázuriz Mackenna, a Chilean, is professor at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome. He is also a Consultor for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, and the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts. His books include Il diritto e la giustizia nella Chiesa (Law and Justice in the Church), published by Giuffré Editori.
